About English Ivy

Trees

English ivy will slowly creep up trees, suffocate them and steal their water and sun. Not only that, but the thick, hairy vines become an excellent place for insects to thrive. Additionally, the extra weight and wind resistance on the trees can increase the odds of your trees falling.

Pests

Predictably, English ivy provides the perfect habitat for pretty much every pest we do not want in our yards. Some of those pests include snakes (including copperheads), mosquitoes, ticks, rats, slugs and raccoons. It is also common for poison ivy to begin growing alongside English ivy since poison ivy prefers shaded areas.

Growth

English ivy is an invasive species. In its juvenile stage, it searches for structures to climb. It grows around 9 feet per year. Once it reaches higher in the tree, the leaves become more round and lighter. This adult plant produces berries from late winter to early spring. These berries are toxic to many American birds but are a favorite snack for invasive birds such as the European starling and house sparrow.

Resilience

English ivy is an extremely hardy plant. This is due to its waxy coating, thick woody vines and ability to store energy. The waxy coating can repel herbicides and the thick mat of vines makes it so even the strongest of individuals will get worn out on a small patch. To further complicate things, English ivy is able to sprout from its leaves. This means even if you did manage to accomplish removing all the thick vines and its roots it could simply sprout again from any leaves left behind. We use a special formulation of herbicides that is capable of penetrating the waxy coating and killing English ivy. We feel it is the most effective and efficient strategy.

Micah did a great job treating my homestead and educated us about how to distinguish various vines. Super helpful. I feel much safer letting my granddaughter play without the worries of poison ivy.

Micah was a godsend. He eliminated a huge infestation of poison ivy and live oak. Best money I ever spent. I’ve recommended him whenever I get the chance. Shockingly good and affordable. I just sent them another referral today.

In a world where customer service seems to be dwindling at an exponential rate, Micah is king. Vines were gone just as fast as he said they were going to be. First rate in every category and I highly recommend Withered Vines.

Best decision ever! Our front and back yard was covered in poison ivy. We tried to treat it ourselves, but once it spreads, it’s incredibly difficult to kill and you’ll almost never really get it all. We couldn’t even go in the yard because it was everywhere. It’s been a little over 2 months since we had Micah come out and every bit of poison ivy has been eradicated. In fact, within 2 weeks, most of the poison ivy was dead. Considering the ease of scheduling, the consult with Micah, knowledge he has and thoroughness of his work, I would 100% recommend Withered Vines to anyone!

Micah did excellent work. I am highly allergic to poison ivy and could not find anyone in my area to remove it. He travelled over an hour away to my house and dug up all the poison ivy by the roots. We are very pleased with the results!

Micah is not only professional, but also very kind, meticulous and dependable. I highly recommend Withered Vines!I can't even express how elated I am with the amount of work he put into clearing a lot of overgrowth and treating a lot of poison ivy that was literally taking over not only my backyard and all of the trees, including my neighbors fences and trees. I can see clearly now, the growth is gone!..lol. I literally had a jungle in the back yard. The pictures do not do it much justice but I can now see the fence line and be happy to see everything wilt away!

We had a lot of poison Ivy growing in our back yard which is covered in English ivy and grab grass. Micah treated it with herbicide and returned 2 weeks later to pull it up from the ground with roots. He spent at least a few hours today pulling it up. Micah treats poison Ivy and anxiety it seems🥴. And he’s a nice guy! Great job!!

Micah is super professional and very knowledgeable. He really knows his stuff. Our English ivy was wilting in just a few days. It's a good investment. It was way up in large trees and that stuff can really start choking a tree. I sure don't want them falling on my house!

I am very pleased with the job that Micah did for us. We have a large naturally wooded area around our home that was being attacked with both poison and English ivy. Micah was first of all polite and manner able, he was also very efficient and timely. In just a matter of weeks we’ve seen lots of dying back of the ivy. We have a 90 day guarantee or he’ll come back and retreat the area. By the look of things we won’t need that. Thanks Micah!
